Basic FAQs

  • Revolution Modern Dance does not have a dedicated studio. Please check the details for each class or event for the appropriate location.

  • You do not need any special clothing, shoes, or equipment to participate. Please check the details for each class or event for recommend attire, footwear, and what else to bring (water, snacks, etc.)

  • So… these aren’t really questions, but they are VERY common feelings. We address these concerns by offering (1) affordable, low-commitment classes, (2) Dynamic and Differentiated Instruction and (3) no spotlights on dancers who are struggling.

  • You are the expert on your own body. We have found that with clear communication between student and teacher, we can include nearly everyone. In most cases dancers are comfortable joining group classes, but private sessions for troubleshooting are available as needed.

Dancers using ASL or requiring other specific accommodations, please contact us before coming to your first class to discuss your needs.

If you have had a sudden/acute injury or illness, please check our flexible refund policy.

Social/Partner Dancing FAQs

  • No, you do not need to bring a dance partner!

At social dance events, it is assumed that folks are open to dancing with anyone and everyone. During social dance classes, we will rotate partners for practice as much as possible - this is the best way to learn and a good way to meet other dancers.

If you prefer not to dance with strangers, then you will need to bring your own partner and you should be prepared to politely decline many invitations to dance.

  • Yes! Dance roles (lead/follow) are mostly about temperament - not gender or body size.

As much as possible, our classes are taught with gender neutral language. We also require all of our students to (1) learn about both roles and (2) avoid assumptions about dance roles based on physical presentation by asking all partners if they want to lead or follow.

  • Social dance events, which usually include an introductory lesson, are absolutely open to drop-in students.

We offer a very limited number of progressive/weekly classes. Each session of weekly classes will move at a different pace, cover slightly different material, and have a different balance of leads and follows; therefore, drop-ins are at the sole discretion of the instructor and usually reserved for experienced “ringers.”

Questions you should be asking…

  • At a minimum, dancers should be paid $25-$30 per hour for the full time spent on your class or event.

For instructors, be sure to include time spent lesson planning or building choreography. For performers, be sure to include time spent learning and rehearsing the composition, plus additional expenses for costuming.

Please include your budget when requesting a dancer work with you on a project. If you need a volunteer just be upfront. We do frequently volunteer in the community based on availability.

  • We are always looking for creatives who want to invest in the local dance community by teaching, sharing music, or developing collaborative performance art projects. The atmosphere is collective, so the very best way to get started is to introduce yourself at a class or event.

You can also express interest in collaboration by completing our ‘help wanted’ form.

  • Hope you have 3 hours of free time and a fresh pot of coffee ready because this is one of Amanda’s special interests!
