Summer 2026 Workshop Schedule
MAY - Fundamentals
May 19 - 7pm - Swing Outs | Amanda teaches a Hollywood-style swing out with counterbalance and a dramatic swivel for the follow. We will restart from the beginning so experience with swing outs is not required. Opportunity to practice swing outs will be included in all partnered classes for the remainder of the summer.
May 19 - 8pm - Macro Musicality with 6-Count Phrases | Repetition of complete phrases to build muscle memory and improve mental endurance so that you have space to start listening to the music. We will learn phrases for the beginning, middle, and end of the song. Vocabulary will draw from beginner lesson bonus moves, so returning dancers can expect a combination of familiar patterns and new-to-them techniques.
June - Classics
June 9 - 7pm - Shim Sham & Solo Jazz (OPEN TO ALL LEVELS) | Multiple solo jazz moves will be covered during our technical warm-up before we start learning the classic line dance for swing dancers. Amanda will review the basic Frankie Manning version. We will practice to multiple classic songs at various tempos, including the regional standard.
June 9 - 8pm - Partnered Side x Side Charleston | Learn 30s style Charleston with a partner. We will cover basic side by side, kick throughs / hand to hand Charleston and finish with the Minne Dip.
July - Spotlight
July 14th - 7pm - Tandem Charleston | Learn 30s style Charleston with a partner. We will cover the tandem position with the classic s-turn entrance and exit. Prior Charleston experience is not required but is strongly encouraged.
June 9 - 8pm - Tempo Training with 6-Count Phrases | Learn how quality of movement, pulse, tension, and counterbalance change as we increase or decrease the speed of our dancing to match the music. We will practice one combo of 6-count moves at various speeds. Vocabulary will draw from beginner lesson bonus moves, so returning dancers can expect a combination of familiar patterns and new-to-them techniques.
Pre-Requisites
Use the following list of moves as a guideline. If you are able to complete them more than 50% of the time, then you are ready to consider continuing classes:
6-count & 8-count rhythms, in open, closed, and side by side positions
tuck turns
side passes with/without turns for follow and/or lead
Knowing specific moves is only part of the equation. To identify a dancer who is ready to move beyond the beginner level, I usually look for the following behaviors. Do you see yourself in this list?
Dresses for class in comfortable clothes and has preferred shoes for dancing
Knows how to warm-up independently
Comfortable rotating partners during class
Practices or dances socially between lessons
Who are these classes for?
Lindy Hop / Swing dancers who have finished a session of weekly beginner classes
Experienced Lindy Hoppers who want to start switching roles
Experienced Lindy Hoppers who want to support the local community and engage with newer dancers
Dancers from other partnered styles (WCS, Ballroom, etc.) who want an authentic Lindy crash course
Class is not for:
Absolute beginners —> please join our weekly group classes or drop-in before a social dance
Couples who never plan to rotate partners —> please sign up for a private lesson
Dancers with joint or mobility issues that prevent them from taking triple steps at tempo —> please join us for WCS, Blues, or slow jazz classes
